Like many other kids from the Munti Gunnung area, Bola's life wasn't going to be easy. With 7 brothers and sisters his parents struggled to put food on the table. Life didn't get any better when Bola's father passed away when he was young.

At age 10 Bola moved to Kuta to live with his older brother, who gave him an old board and gave him a few lessons. It wasn't long before Bola was ripping the Legian beachies and had attracted a couple of same sponsorships.

Unfortunatley like most Balinese life took a turn for the worst after the Bali bombing. Bola had to move back to his village as there was no work in Kuta, and he also lost his sponsors. More than 12 months out of the water was to much and Bola moved back to Kuta and before long was back in the waves and smiling.
